Ashish Thusoo and Joydeep Sen Sarma were part of building and leading the original Facebook Data Service Team from 2007-2011 during which they authored many prominent data industry tools including the Apache Hive Project. Their goal was not only to enable massive speed and scale to the data platform, but also to provide better self-service access to the data for business users. Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Before co-founding Qubole Ashish ran Facebook’s Data Infrastructure team; under his leadership the team built one of the largest data processing and analytics platforms in the world. This platform achieved not just the bold aim of making data accessible to analysts, engineers and data scientists, but drove the “big data” revolution. In the process of scaling Facebook’s Big Data infrastructure, he helped drive the creation of a host of tools, technologies and templates that are used industry wide today.
Co-Founder and Head of Qubole India
Before co-founding Qubole Joydeep worked at Facebook where he boot-strapped the data processing ecosystem based on Hadoop, started the Apache Hive project and led Facebook’s Data Infrastructure team. Joydeep was also a key contributor on the Facebook Messages architecture team and brought the power of Apache Hbase to Facebook and to the transactional and reporting backends for Facebook Credits.
Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales & Business Development
Prior to joining Qubole, Marcy spent five years as SVP of Global Alliances and Sales at Engine Yard. During her tenure she built a $38 million dollar direct sales business, developed a thriving worldwide channel partner network and created strategic partnerships with Microsoft, Amazon, Verizon, Citrix and Oracle. Before Engine Yard, Marcy spent over twenty years building and managing high performance sales, channel and business development teams at companies including IBM, Lotus and Netscape Communications.
Senior Vice President, Marketing
Hsieh has more than two decades of experience with Software-as-a-Service, cloud and data warehouse technologies, and most recently served as vice president of marketing at Instart Logic. He also held executive marketing positions with Ubiquiti Networks, Cisco, Webex Communications, Inc. and Sybase, and successfully helped lead both LBMS and Ubiquiti Networks through their IPO processes. In his role as senior vice president of marketing, Hsieh will head Qubole’s brand and marketing strategy, as well as lead generation and sales enablement.Hsieh has a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Northwestern University.
Vice President, Finance
Ken Tamura has a proven track record building high performing teams and helping emerging businesses accelerate the top line while optimizing the deployment of capital. With more than twenty years of finance experience, Tamura joins Qubole from Airware Inc. where he was vice president of finance. Prior to Qubole, he had leading financial roles with Autodesk Inc., Scient Corp. and The Walt Disney Company. Tamura is a Certified Public Accountant, and holds a Masters of Business Administration from the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley.
Vice President, Customer Success
Jonathan Trail (JT) joins Qubole with 20 years of experience in enterprise software implementation services and customer success. JT has started and grown global Services teams in several software start up companies. Most recently as VP of Application Delivery, JT ran a profitable $21M Customer Success and Services business unit for NICE Systems, a global provider of analytic and big data platforms for contact centers and back office operations for enterprises such as Sprint, United Health Group, and Royal Bank of Canada. JT is an engineering graduate of Stanford University, holds a Masters in Engineering Administration from Virginia Tech, and served as an officer and nuclear engineer in the US Navy for five years after college prior to his career in enterprise software services.
Chief Information Security Officer and Vice President of Security, Compliance & Privacy
Mr. Daniels has more than twenty years in the information services and security and has lead security at a number of companies. Prior to joining Qubole, Mr. Daniels spent four years leading and growing information security at ClearSlide an enterprise Software-as-a-Service and has also held leadership roles in information security at Microsoft, Shutterfly, Oracle and NetSuite. As the leader of information security he has guided programs around a number of critical initiatives that has increased security, trust and protection of crucial assets and information.
Since joining CRV in 2008, Devdutt has pioneered the firm’s investments in the next generation of SaaS companies. He brings the experience of building two high-growth tech companies. Prior to joining CRV, Devdutt was the co-founder and CEO of Yantra, a leading eCommerce technology company that was acquired by a division of AT&T. Prior to that, Devdutt was SVP Sales & Marketing at Infosys, leading them from a small startup to a highly successful public company.
Arif Janmohamed brings significant Big Data, Cloud, and SaaS expertise to the Qubole board. He focuses primarily on investments in the areas of cloud and datacenter technologies, as well as enterprise mobile and SaaS solutions. Prior to joining Lightspeed, he worked in the Corporate Business Development group at Cisco Systems. Before joining Cisco, he was with Novitas Capital, an early-stage venture capital firm. Earlier in his career, he worked in technical development and product management roles at WebTV (acquired by MSFT), Andes Networks (acquired by SUNW), and Sun Microsystems. Arif holds an MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and a BSc in Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Canada.
Rama Sekhar, Partner, Norwest Venture Partners focuses primarily on early to late stage venture investments in enterprise and infrastructure, including cloud, networking, enterprise mobile, storage and security. Rama’s current investments include Bitglass, Exablox, Pertino Networks, and Qubole. Rama was previously an investor in Morta Security (acquired by Palo Alto Networks). Before joining NVP in 2009, Rama was with Comcast Ventures, where he focused on early and growth stage investment opportunities in the enterprise and infrastructure sectors. Prior to Comcast Ventures, Rama was a Product Manager at Cisco Systems, where he defined product strategy and roadmaps for the GSR 12000 Series and CRS-1 routers, $1B networking products in the carrier and data center markets. Previously, Rama was a Sales Engineer at Cisco Systems supporting AT&T, where he sold the core and edge networking equipment that comprises AT&T’s national IP backbone.
Somesh Dash joined IVP in March of 2005. He focuses primarily on later-stage investments in Internet, software, wireless, and technology-enabled services companies. Prior to IVP, Somesh was an Analyst in the Corporate Finance Division of Credit Suisse’s Technology Investment Banking Group. While at Credit Suisse, Somesh focused on strategic financing initiatives for a number of public and private technology companies. Prior to joining Credit Suisse, Somesh worked for Luxmi Capital, an early stage venture capital fund focused on digital media investments. He also worked for the Corporate Development Division of Sony Entertainment Television (SET) in Mumbai, India.
Venky Harinarayan is a founding partner of Cambrian Ventures. Prior to founding Cambrian in 2000, Venky was a General Manager at Amazon.com, where working with founder and CEO, Jeff Bezos, he helped create Amazon.com’s marketplace business. Marketplace today is Amazon.com’s most profitable and fastest growing business, accounting for almost 25% of all US transactions.
Anand Rajaraman is Senior Vice President at Walmart Global eCommerce, where he heads up the newly created @WalmartLabs, which focuses on the intersection of social, mobile, and retail. Anand joined Walmart when when Walmart acquired Kosmix, the startup he co-founded. He also teaches a class on web-scale data mining at the Computer Science Department at Stanford University.
