State and future of the Presto project and community - David Phillips & Martin Traverso, Starburst

October 28, 2020

Presto, an open-source distributed SQL engine, is widely recognized for its low-latency queries, high concurrency, and native ability to query multiple data sources. Proven at scale in a variety of use cases at companies such as Comcast, FINRA, LinkedIn, Lyft, Netflix, and Pinterest, in the last few years, Presto experienced unprecedented growth in popularity in both on-premises and cloud deployments over Object Storage, HDFS, NoSQL and RDBMS data stores. We will present the recent Presto advancements and the project roadmap going forward, and then detail Presto's support for Apache Iceberg, an open table format for huge analytic data sets, optimized for modern data lake storage systems.
