Lyft, Box, Amgen and Scripps Join Growing Roster of Top-Tier Customers
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA–(Marketwired – Aug 4, 2016) – Qubole, the big data-as-a-service company, reported exponential growth over the past six months and strong momentum heading into the second half of 2016. Following its $30 million Series C funding round in January, Qubole has continued to sign marquee customers, running the most advanced data programs today. Lyft, Box, Amgen and Scripps have all signed with Qubole to empower their data teams to accelerate use cases and provide data insights throughout the enterprise.
“At Lyft, our data volume has grown more than 100x in the past year alone, creating unique data infrastructure challenges for our team to solve. Qubole allows our business to continue scaling rapidly even as our infrastructure engineering team stays lean,” said Chris Lambert, CTO at Lyft.
Qubole has grown its team by more than 50 percent, with notable hires to its sales and marketing teams to meet the growing demand for self-service tools to support enterprise data teams. It has also expanded its service to the APAC and EU regions and will continue to bolster its customer acquisition efforts internationally.
“We ended the second quarter with more than double the revenue compared to the same period last year, and we continue to draw outstanding talent to build out the team, now 110 people strong, to keep up with growth,” said Ashish Thusoo, co-founder and CEO of Qubole. “Digital native-companies like Lyft and Box, as well as research-intensive enterprise such as Amgen and Scripps are realizing the value of Qubole as an enterprise-wide platform that enables data teams to be more effective, and we’re seeing increased demand in the U.S. and internationally. In the second half of the year, the team will be focused on continuing to enhance the Qubole Data Service to help data teams be even more effective.”
Qubole added several major new customers during the first half of the year, bringing the company’s total customer count to more than 100 companies spanning a wide range of industries, from retail to gaming to data providers and marketing tech. Customers now process more than 250 petabytes of data each month, and have doubled the number of jobs run on Qubole’s cloud-based big data analytics platform to two million per month.
To lead Qubole through this phase of hyper-growth, the company appointed four key executives in the first half of the year, including David Hsieh as senior vice president of marketing and Ken Tamura as vice president of finance, Suresh Ramaswamy as head of web services division, and Andrew Daniels as chief information officer.
The company also continued to innovate and enhance the Qubole Data Service in the first half, pioneering three innovative new open source projects to further optimize big data analytics in the cloud and help data teams be more agile:
- RubiX – Next-generation disk cache for cloud storage systems that works across different big data engines
- Quark – Cost-based SQL optimizer that helps simplify and optimize access to data for data analysts
- StreamX – Ingestion service that processes data logs from Kafka and persists it to cloud object stores such as Amazon S3
“As enterprises churn out increasingly massive levels of data and demand for data insights spreads across organizations, data teams recognize that they need a more scalable, automated platform to keep up with demand; to achieve that, they are looking to the cloud,” said Dharmesh Desai, technology evangelist at Qubole. “Using Qubole, our customers are able to support many analysts, data scientists and varying workloads across the enterprise, using as much or as little compute resources as needed and the best tools for the job — eliminating bottlenecks, wasted time and extra expense.”
Qubole has also been honored with several industry accolades, including:
- Forbes’ Best Big Data and Analytics Companies to Work for in 2016
- The Cloud Awards – Most Innovative Use of Big Data in the Cloud
- CRN Big Data 100 2016
- DBTA 100 2016
As the company moves into the second half of the year, Qubole looks to continue its strong momentum and help enterprises achieve their data aspirations through expansion of the Qubole Data Service platform, making processing more accessible in the enterprise while reducing complexity and cost.
